Don’t feed the wildlife – Renmark – July 1998

Don't feed the animals - Renmark - July 1998

This is why people should be discouraged from feeding local wildlife … Pelicans are quite big and can get quite aggressive (and scare young children!).

Renmark has a history of troublesome Pelicans. This one had a posse of Silver Gulls and Moorhens to back him up.

Noisy Neighbours - Renmark - July 1998

During a holiday in South Australia’s Riverland district, we stayed at a caravan park in Renmark. At night we were constantly disturbed by possums thumping across the metal roof of our cabin. This one demanded food or else he would bring his mates over for a rave party!

Lake Bellfield – Grampians, Victoria – Dec 1995

Lake Bellfield - Grampians, Victoria - Dec 1995
Lake Bellfield - Grampians, Victoria - Dec 1995

We drove over to Victoria and visited the Grampians for a holiday in late 1995. It is an interesting and quite accessible area with a lot of winding roads through the mountains, and walking trails that take you to spectacular waterfalls or to fantastic views of the valleys.

This photo is of Lake Bellfield (just to the south of the town of Halls Gap).

Compare Funds

Monday 1st October, 2007 2 Comments

I’ve just finished the first version of my new website: Compare Funds – Managed Fund Comparison Charts and Statistics.

Sorry to everyone I’ve ignored over the last couple of weeks – it’s been pretty intense trying to get this ready by today – a LOT of late nights!

There is still a lot more work to do on the site – it’s a long way from where I want it to be and I have a long list of features I want to implement. All that is done so far is basic fund profile information, charting (including moving averages), and historical yearly and quarterly performance figures.

I currently have data for the following fund managers:

  • Colonial First State – Managed Investment Funds
  • Colonial First State – FirstChoice Investments
  • Colonial First State – FirstChoice Wholesale Investments
  • NavraInvest
  • Platinum Asset Management

I will be adding additional fund managers over the next few weeks (I have to program the data capture routines for each new manager).

I haven’t yet done the comparison tables – that will be the next feature I work on.

I figured that what I have done so far will be useful enough to some people, and I can get some feedback on what features are important.

I’ve already used the site myself – I finally got the rollovers into my new SMSF, so I’ve been using the data and tables to choose some new funds to invest my super in (although the comparison tables would have been useful here!)

… please remember the site is still in development, so some things may not work completely, and some of the data may not be 100% accurate.

Wedding Day – June 1994

Wedding Day - June 1994
Wedding Day - June 1994

The morning of the wedding, my groomsmen met me at our unit for lunch before we headed off to the ceremony together.

Although you (deliberately) can’t see them in any of the wedding photos, we all wore cartoon socks – I’m on the left wearing the Marvin the Martian socks, then we had Pepe Le Pew and Snoopy as Joe Cool.

It got a laugh at the reception when we all stood up and hoisted our trouser legs to show everyone the socks.
