You may have noticed that most of my posts of late have been about travel or work (or both !).
Unfortunately I am currently paying for haveing the first six months of this year without much in the way of travel for work. Now I have to catch up on it all !
Last week’s trip to Chicago was to attend training for our new Portal product release. Next week I am off to Beijing to teach that material. A couple of weeks after that I will be teaching in Sydney, then in Seoul, then Melbourne, Brisbane, Auckland, perhaps even Perth. What’s more, inbetween these week long trips, I will possibly be squeezing in some shorter trips to do other enablement work and training in preparation for the longer classes.
At this stage I’m almost fully booked all the way until Christmas, so I don’t expect things to settle down until after I get back from our holidays. But that will be just in time for some more travel to follow on from what we’ve done in the second half of this year.
Product momentum – it’s both a blessing and a curse, the busier you get, happier management is, but the harder you work to keep up with demand. At least it’s satisfying work.
So I’m struggling with a lack of brain-bandwidth at the moment. Not enough energy to concentrate on ideas and solving problems outside of my working life. I expect this to settle down after a while and once we get into a routine with the education. It’s just a little hectic right now.
I have so many things I’m wanting to achieve this year, even outside of work. I want to get my blog in better shape, I want to continue updating my photo gallery – including uploading a back-catalogue of close to 5000 photos (only a small percentage will actually be uploaded though), I want to set up my ZooBeat discussion forum, make some more improvements to the Somersoft forum, I want to finish the first draft of my book, I want to set up an online store for selling my father’s writings and my mother’s plants, I want to get my tax in order, I want to sort out my investment accounts and get them up to date, I want to fix my filing so that it’s not quite the mess it has gotten itself into, I want to scan the rest of my 35mm photo collection for posterity and safe-keeping, I want to spend some more time researching some investment options and strategies, I want to write some software to manage those bit of my property portfolio that aren’t covered neatly by Quickbooks or by any other software, I want to finish editing the video footage that I’ve taken over the last three years or so, and start burning DVDs for my family, I want to start planning to do some further education in the next couple of years, and most importantly I want to teach myself better habits for living to start looking after my body a bit more.
And none of this includes stuff that I want to do with Leanne.
Now that I think about it and write some of this stuff down, I can see some issues. Maybe my expectations are too high. Maybe my priorities are screwed. Maybe there just aren’t enough hours in the day. Really, I think it’s that last thing that’s actually the problem – not enough hours in the day :D
It’s a good thing that Buffy has finished !
