Day 4 – Pension Stein and ChipiChape

Having gone to bed so early the night before, when I was awake at 4:30am I decided to get up and do some work. At least it was quiet!

Breakfast was pastries and eggs, not too bad, but I think Andres is missing his Weetbix.

After breakfast we caught a taxi to ChipeChape, a large shopping centre about 10 minutes drive away. We wandered around for a while before stopping at the Exito supermarket to do some shopping. This Exito store is particularly large and has a range of general merchandise and clothing as well as the standard grocery items – kind of like a Woolworths / BigW combo. They even sell scooters and motorbikes!

We headed back to the hotel for lunch.  There is a Swedish family staying at the Hotel Pension Stein with their 18 month old son who they collected from Chiquitines nearly 2 weeks ago. After lunch we all sat out on the front porch of the hotel and watched the two kids play. Andres was pretty good with the younger boy – I think he’s going to be a good older brother for Nicol. We also heard that there was a Danish family coming in later today as well.

Later in the afternoon we decided to stretch our legs some more by walking down along the river to show Andres the River Cats sculptures. He really liked them, although we were a bit disappointed that many of the statues had already been loaded up into a truck and were not visible. We think perhaps they were being taken to an exhibition or something.

We stopped at Ventolini on the way back to the hotel, but before we could order anything for Andres, he fell asleep in my arms. He really didn’t seem like stirring again, so we ordered some icecream without him. He did wake up on the way home, but didn’t seem concerned about Ventolini.

Andres asleep at Ventolini - missing out on icecream!

All up, it was a quiet day, starting to get into the routine of the Pension Stein and getting over our jetlag.
