Day 20 – Zoologico de Cali

Thursday 26th April, 2012 3 Comments

Up fairly early this morning – we decided to visit Cali Zoo right after breakfast.

Andres of the many hats

Enrique organised one of their regular taxi drivers to take us there at around 9:30am – Enrique paid for the taxi ride and for the zoo tickets as well, something he does for families staying at the hotel. We laughed when we got to the secure parking area in front of the zoo, the security guard challenged us and the driver simply mentioned Enrique’s name and we were waved through. Then again, when we got to the ticket booth, our driver mentioned Enrique’s name and the girl nodded her head and gave us his standard special price (which Enrique also paid for us). It seems in this town that you merely need to mention Enrique’s name and doors open for you.

Crossing the bridge over the River Cali, which passes alongside and through the zoo
Andres gets to ride in one of their little jeeps - they were cheap (2,500 pesos per hour - about $5.30 total for 3 hours), and they stopped him from complaining too much. Normally we would take a pram to the zoo just in case.

At 1pm we met our driver back at the main entrance and headed back to the hotel for lunch – a very pleasant morning at the zoo.

Of course, we spent the afternoon resting!

    I’m jealous – Hummingbirds!

And the photos of the children in the jeep are wonderful.
