Sheraton Perth

Wednesday 20th August, 2003 3 Comments

I’m staying at the Sheraton in Perth this trip – which is good because last time I was here (November last year), they made me stay at the Novotel across the road (or No Vote L, as I prefer to call it) because the Sheraton was booked out.

Similar to the Sheraton Towers in Melbourne, they have furnished it in a classic style with lovely old style furniture and fittings. It has a lovely feel to the place.

The rooms are very similar to the Sheraton Towers in Melbourne too although slightly smaller.

Let’s get straight to the rating…

Room: 8/10 – functional, clean, classy – mmm, this is starting to sound a lot like my review of the Sheraton Towers :D

Bed: 7/10 – The king sized bed is really comfortable, but they still have those pillows which collapse down to almost nothing and suffocate you with the bits that stick up on either side of your head. I just don’t sleep as well on these types of pillows.

TV: 7/10 – nice big TV, but not viewable from the desk and only CNN and one other cable channel.

Connectivity: 4/10 – two phones, one on desk and one by bed, data port on the wall by the desk. Dialup speed limited to around 28.8kbps. No broadband. This is going to start losing the Sheraton business traffic unless they start fixing this connectivity problem they have – I am already starting to stay at the Grand Hyatt in Melbourne despite my preference for the Sheraton in everything else – purely based on the fact that I can be far more productive at the Hyatt with their broadband.

Breakfast: 8/10 – good breakfast.

Room Service: 7/10 – Reasonable selection, food pretty good quality, service reasonable.

Location: 6/10 – quite a distance from IBM, so not ideal from that side of things, about 10-15 mins walk from the mall and all the restaurants, so not great there either. Fortunately there’s good public transport available, and cabs are usually easy to find too, with traffic not being too bad… so it’s not that bad.

Total: 47/70 = 67%

My dropouts are not connection related they are ISP related.

A good breakfast is one where they have a good selection of hot food and cold food, they have weetbix, they have good quality fresh orange juice, and they have good service. Most of the hotels I stay at have what I consider a “good” breakfast… I got tired of writing the same description over and over.

    Funny bundy.

Sim’s the breakfast rating explanation is a cop-out. 8/10 is a good rating. What makes it so good?
