Freeing Technology

Wednesday 13th August, 2003 1 Comment

PaulZag writes about letting technology set you free. Just thought I’d share a couple of comments about technology.

Many people consider that since I’m such a computer nerd and seem to be heavily into technology that I always have the latest gadgets and load the latest software on my computers.

Actually, my computers are a tool, not a toy – because my computer is so important to both my personal, my financial, and to a certain degree even my social life, I need it to be ultra reliable and available all the time. Downtime or having my computer unavailable is a major problem for me – as is so severely disrupts productivity in many parts of my life.

So as a result, I tend to be quite conservative with my technology choices… it has to work and it has to work reliably.

So I’ve been using the same email client for about 9 years now – it’s small, fast, very reliable, it works. My SPAM filtering is simplistic, but reliable, and I haven’t really had the inclination to change it.

That being said, if someone introduces me to a technology that is easy to incorporate into my existing infrastructure and is reliable and simple, then I will consider it… especially if it makes my time use more efficient.

Have a look at POPfile. It works with almost any mail client.
