Delonghi PAC60ECO Portable Air Conditioner

Wednesday 25th January, 2006 Leave a Comment

I bought a portable airconditioner recently for my home office – it gets really hot in here on sunny days.

After quite a bit of research, I settled on the Delonghi PAC60ECO … 12,000 Btu/h (3520W) of cooling power. It’s one of the most powerful portable air conditioners on the market, and while significantly more expensive than a similarly capable model from Dimplex, it looks a darn sight better ! It is a bit quieter too – which is what really justified spending the extra money to me.

It you look at it out of the corner of your eye, and use your imagination, it even looks a bit like R2D2.

It’s fairly noisy – but not prohobitively so … I was able to talk comfortably on the phone to someone with it on full, with only a little bit of distraction.

It’s excellent for extracting moisture from the air on really humid days, and does a pretty good job on very hot days. We’ve had some 40 degree celcius days here in Sydney recently, and while the airconditioner struggled to keep the room cool with me and all my computers in here – at least it did make it more comfortable by moving cooler air around.

I think if I can get some external blinds for the main window in the office to prevent the direct sunlight during the hottest part of the day, it will make a lot of difference and the air conditioner will be able to do a much more effective job.

You do need to fill up the water container at least once a day (if you run it all day long), but filling from the sink is easy with the flexible hose contained inside the container. Although it’s not necessary to use the water container, it is noticably cooler if you do, and also sounds slightly more quiet to me too!

I’m very happy with the Delonghi PAC60ECO so far.
