The axe in the chook shed (aka Billion 7402G ADSL router)

Monday 19th September, 2005 3 Comments

You know the old trick of hanging an axe in the chook shed to warn them if they don’t start laying eggs, then they will be Sunday’s roast ?

Well, it works with other things too.

I’ve had a heap of trouble with my ADSL router recently – dropouts several times a day, lockups, general misbehaviour.

Since I would find it rather difficult to be without my ADSL link for any period of time, I have been reluctant to send it back to where I got it from for them to have a look at it. From reports I’ve read elsewhere, the modem I got (Billion 7402G) is considered very reliable, but occasionally people get a dud.

I ordered a second identical router that I would use as a backup / spare once I had sorted out my current routers problems. Funnily enough, since it arrived a week ago, my router has been up for 6 days straight !!

I haven’t even got around to taking the new one out of the box yet.

… but the router should be warned – if it so much as thinks about starting trouble, it will be out the door faster than it can say “when is our exchange being ADSL2+ enabled?” !!
