We’re in

Thursday 1st September, 2005 1 Comment

Well, we finally moved in to our new place today.

The removalists came this morning just after 8am and were done by soon after midday (which was actually a lot longer than I expected).

No problems with the move at all – other than some concern about the weight of my new digital piano – but they managed to get it moved in the end with no real dramas.

We spent the afternoon ferrying across the last of the bits and pieces from the unit – we had all the small bits from the kitchen (including crockery and foodstuffs) – wasn’t difficult, just fiddly and ended up taking us a few more trips than we had thought it would to get it all done.

On our last trip over, we stopped off to buy some dinner on the way, then when we got here I managed to move enough furniture in the lounge to find us somewhere to sit and watch the news on TV while we ate.

We then made up the bed (that was planned as our #1 priority !!), and while LJ sorted out the clothes in the bedroom, I got the washing machine set up and levelled, and then spent an hour setting up the fridge. Our fridge has a reversible door (meaning it can be re-hinged to allow it to open from either the left or the right) – and we needed it opening the other way here. I also had some problems with one of the wheels on the base of the fridge that took me a while to sort out, but I got it in the end. Spent a bit of time fiddling with the set up to get the door to swing closed rather than open – so hopefully it’s all ready to go now.

Next I spent some time setting up the essentials for the study – ADSL modem and power !! I have a large suitcase full of all the cables and such that I originally had connecting all my computers and other gear in the study. It’s going to take me a couple of weeks to get that all sorted and back up and running I suspect.

My new office is wonderfully large – we actually have both our desks, a smaller table, and two filing cabinets along one wall, and then two bookshelves and a storage unit along the other wall where the door it. There’s clear access through to both desks, and it’s a nice uncluttered layout – a far cry from my previous office.

LJ has to get up at 5:30am tomorrow to go meet our cleaner at the unit at 6am so he can start getting stuff done – but then she’ll come back and begin the thrilling task of sorting out the kitchen – at the moment all our glassware, crockery and cookware – and even our foodstuff is strewn across the dining room floor. We don’t have as much cupboard space in our kitchen here, so it’s going to take a bit of thought as to where we put things.

I’ll leave it there for now and post some more updates on what we’ve been up to. I’m so exhausted – it’s been a very long week so far, and there’s still heaps more to do. But at least we’re in now, and can start enjoying the house.

Just completed a move myself and now I remember why I bought my last appartment, just tired of moving.

Still it’s a chance to refit the office the way you like it :)

    Cheers,
    Andrew.
