So it seems official now, the editor components of the upcoming IBM Workplace Client Technology will indeed contain technology derived from OpenOffice.org, which to me is fantastics news – I have been using OpenOffice.org for a couple of months now and have been trying to wean myself off MS Office.
I’m glad IBM are taking bold steps into this arena – we will now have a cross-platform rich client offering that is ideal for enterprises with mixed (or non-Windows) client types.
Building it into WCT and not just releasing a stand-alone office suite is (in my opinion) a great move too – we are playing to our strengths, enterprise computing technologies – and we are not just trying to create “yet another office suite”.
Can’t wait to get my hands on the code !
