While building my new machine, I’ve been checking for updated drivers, software patches and firmware for my software and peripherals.
I have a Sony DRU510A DVD burner and I discovered that Sony have released updated firmware (now up to 1.0f) which apparently improved the reliablity of DVD writing amongst other things.
Not only that, but they have released an updated version of the writing software, RecordNow DX for people who bought these DVD drives, with quite a few extra features.
I’m impressed – usually you just expect that what you buy in the box is what you’ll be stuck with, and any new featured would require you to either buy a new drive, or buy new software at full retail prices. It’s nice to be given extra functionality and stability for no extra charge.
