Over the last 18 months, I have put up with construction work outside our bedroom window as the Willoughby City Council demolished the old Kids Cottage after school child care centre and replaced it with the new multi-purpose Artarmon Comunity Centre.
They finished major contruction work about 6 months ago, and have been working on the landscaping ever since. It’s stilll not completely finished, and I can see this great new building back there, but nobody seems to be using it (except for the after school care).
I wrote an email to the council asking:
Is the new Artarmon Community Centre available for hire ? Or is it only
ever used for after school care ?
… and the response…
The Artarmon Community Centre became operational this year but work on the
centre has not been completed as yet. At present the centre is only
available for after school care and vacation care however Council is
anticpating that it will also be leased out to other community groups for
use but not until the new financial year, provided all works are completed.
New financial year ?? Do they mean July 2004 ??? Sheesh !
And I was hoping to have some of our Sydney property investors get-togethers there if it was cheap enough – since it is literally just around the corner from my place :D
At least most of the noise has stopped now – if I hear one more bobcat reversing beeper, I think I’ll go postal.
