Carillon

There is an attraction in Canberra which has become a favourite of ours over the years – the National Carillon.

Having lunch or afternoon tea on Aspen island during a recital is a very relaxing way to spend time while in Canberra. Once you understand how a Carillon works, you can appreciate the skill involved in creating music with these complex bell towers.

Interestingly, I have noted that some of the advertising material and maps available for Canberra incorrectly spell it “Carillion” – which apparently is not uncommon according to the The Guild of Carillonneurs in North America. Their web page lists some of the reasons why this mistake might be made.
