El Calafate

Just letting you know we’re still in El Calafate - the internet link here is very very slow, so I’m a bit behind with the blogging.
Hopefully when we get to Punta Arenas on Saturday we will have a bit of a faster link - but no guarantees there!

Day 25 - El Calafate

Got to sleep in a little this morning - breakfast finished at 9:30am, so we were able to sleep in until nearly 9, which was nice for a change. Mid-morning we walked into town - El Calafate is a nice little tourist town that was nowhere near as overdeveloped as places like Bariloche (although with the amount of [...]

Day 24 - Puerto Natales to El Calafate

Very early start this morning (yet again - I’m getting tired of this - especially with the late nights after eating around 9pm or so - restaurants generally only open at 8pm … we appreciate the afternoon siesta - although we don’t often get a property one while on a tour). We finished packing, had [...]

Day 23 - Puerto Natales and Parque Nacional Bernado O’Higgins

Yet another early start - this time after our shower and breakfast we headed down to the warf at 7:30am to catch a boat cruise up to another National Park: Bernado O’Higgins … one of the most remote and inaccessible national parks in this area.

Day 22 - Puerto Natales and Torres del Paine

Up early to catch our bus this morning - a quick breakfast and then out to wait for our bus by 7:30am. The bus (12,000 pesos each AU$29) took us into Torres del Paine National Park, a 3 hour trip, most of it on very rough and dusty roads.

Day 21 - Puerto Natales

Got to sleep in a little bit this morning, but breakfast finshed at 9:30am, so we couldn’t lie in too long. Breakfast was cereal and toast (with ham and cheese on the side!) - not too bad really. At least the milk was cold (the flavour of UHT milk has come a long way in [...]

Day 20 - Navimag and Puerto Natales

Had a good night sleep last night - smooth run through the channels with very little boat movement. Got up just after 8, dressed and went for breakfast.

Puerto Natales

Just a quick update to let you know we made it to Puerto Natales. I have a heap of emails to catch up on and some other work to do - so it may take me a bit to get the other blog entries done.
We took over 1000 photos on the three day trip - although quite a [...]

Day 19 - Navimag

We woke to more beautiful scenery this morning - and a much smoother boat ride. We had passed back into the channels just after dawn and out of the rolling seas. Breakfast was the usual fare, and I tried to have a shower after breakfast this time, but still had little water pressure.

Day 18 - Navimag

Woke up around 8am when they called us to breakfast. I tried to have a shower, but I think everyone else had the same idea and so I only had a mildly warm trickle of water - took a while to get enough to wash myself with.
